Introduction to Alpha Gamma Delta
Alpha Gamma Delta is a women’s fraternity that was founded in 1904 at Syracuse University. The fraternity has over 200,000 initiated members and exists to provide opportunities for personal development, service to others, and the lifelong bonds of sisterhood. One of the things that makes Alpha Gamma Delta unique is our focus on philanthropy. We support the fight against hunger with our philanthropy, Feeding America.
What is Alpha Gamma Delta?
Alpha Gamma Delta is an international women’s fraternity that promotes academic excellence, philanthropic giving, ongoing leadership and personal development. Our sisterhood consists of more than 200,000 women at more than 170 colleges and universities. We are committed to making a difference in the lives of our sisters, our communities and the world.
What is their philanthropy?
Alpha Gamma Delta’s philanthropy is supporting the fight against hunger. They do this by partnering with Feeding America and Meals on Wheels. They also have their own program called the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation which provides grants to programs that help women and children who are struggling with hunger.
How Alpha Gamma Delta’s Philanthropy Makes a Difference
Alpha Gamma Delta’s philanthropy is important because it helps raise money for research and educational programs related to diabetes. The sorority also advocates for policies to improve the lives of people with diabetes. Through their philanthropy, Alpha Gamma Delta is making a difference in the fight against diabetes.
What are the main causes they support?
Since Alpha Gamma Delta’s founding in 1904, we have supported beta Theta Pi Fraternity’s philanthropy, which is FIJI Water Foundation. Our philanthropic focus has brought life-changing clean water to more than 700,000 people worldwide.
Each year, Alpha Gamma Delta collegiate and alumnae chapters donate more than $600,000 and countless volunteer hours to support FIJI Water Foundation initiatives. In 2018, our support helped build the Nalu Ponds WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) project in Fiji. The Nalu Ponds project provides clean water for 4,200 people living in isolated rural areas who do not have access to running water or toilets.
The new freshwater ponds give families a safe place to bathe and do laundry, and also provide much-needed drinking water for both people and livestock. Our support of the Nalu Ponds project is just one example of how Alpha Gamma Delta’s philanthropy makes a difference in the lives of others.
What are some of the ways they raise money?
Each year, Alpha Gamma Delta strives to increase the dollars raised and awareness for the fight against hunger. Our International Council sets a philanthropic goal for the Fraternity to achieve. Each collegiate and alumnae chapter works to meet this challenge through various fundraisers and events held throughout the year.
Some of our most popular philanthropic events are:
-Dine & Donates
-Canned Food Drives
-Holidays for Hunger
How has their philanthropy made a difference?
Since its founding in 1904, Alpha Gamma Delta’s (AGD) philanthropy has been Fighting Hunger. AGD sisters have supported local and national hunger relief initiatives through volunteering, fundraising and awareness building efforts. In recent years, the sorority has partnered with the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) as its official philanthropic partner.
To date, AGD has raised more than $4 million for MOWAA to support its efforts in combating senior hunger. In addition to financial donations, AGD sisters have also donated their time by volunteering with Meals on Wheels programs across the country. This hands-on approach allows sisters to see firsthand how their support is making a difference in the lives of seniors in their communities.
One program that has benefitted greatly from AGD’s support is the Mobile Meals program in Lexington, Kentucky. This program provides hot meals to homebound seniors who are unable to cook for themselves. Without Mobile Meals, many of these seniors would go without a hot meal each day. AGD sisters have been involved with this program since it began in 1985 and they continue to support it today through both financial donations and volunteer hours.
AGD’s philanthropy makes a difference in the lives of seniors every day by providing them with access to nutritious meals that they would otherwise go without. The sorority’s partnership with MOWAA ensures that their support will continue to make an impact for years to come.
Through their philanthropic efforts, Alpha Gamma Delta has been able to make a difference in the lives of others. They have raised money for research, provided scholarships, and helped those in need. Their philanthropy makes a difference in the world, and they are to be commended for their efforts.

They have raised millions of dollars for numerous charities and have volunteered countless hours to various causes.
