What is National Philanthropy Day?
National Philanthropy Day is a special day set aside to recognize and celebrate the contributions that philanthropy – and those people active in the philanthropic community – have made to our lives and our world.
This year, National Philanthropy Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 15th.
On this day, we come together to pay tribute to the great work that philanthropy supports – from medical research to educational opportunities, from environmental protection to disaster relief. And we come together to celebrate the spirit of giving that is at the heart of philanthropy.
Philanthropy is about more than just writing a check – it’s about making a difference. It’s about using our time, our talents and our resources to build a better world.
So on National Philanthropy Day, let’s take a moment to celebrate all that philanthropy has accomplished – and all that it can achieve in the future.
What is the history of National Philanthropy Day?
National Philanthropy Day® was established in 1986 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), with the support of philanthropic organizations nationwide, to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy—and those people active in the philanthropic community—make to our lives, our communities, and our world.
Since it began, National Philanthropy Day has become one of AFP’s most important events, celebrated annually by AFP chapters around the world on or near November 15. This special day provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and to recognize individuals and organizations whose contributions have enriched our lives and enhanced our communities.
