Sigma Kappa’s National Philanthropy

Sigma Kappa’s national philanthropy is the Alzheimer’s Association. We support this philanthropy through our yearly “Think Pink” event in October, as well as various other fundraisers throughout the year. Sigma Kappa has chapters all over the country, and we all come together to support this great cause!

Sigma Kappa’s Local Philanthropy

Sigma Kappa has a long history of supporting local philanthropic causes. One of our most recent philanthropic endeavors was a canned food drive to benefit the hungry in our community. We were able to collect over 200 cans of food to donate to the local food bank. This was a great way for us to help those in need and make a difference in our community.

How Sigma Kappa’s National Philanthropy Makes a Difference

Sigma Kappa sorority was founded on the principles of personal growth, friendship, service and loyalty. These values continue to be the cornerstone of our sisterhood today and guide everything we do, including our philanthropic efforts.

What's philanthropy and how can it help your business?

Since our founding over 130 years ago, Sigma Kappa has supporting Reading is Fundamental (RIF), the nation’s largest children’s literacy organization. We have donated more than $4 million to RIF and have provided more than 1.6 million books to children across the country.

In addition to our work with RIF, Sigma Kappa also supports the Alzheimer’s Association and Inherit the Earth (ITE). ITE is a Sigma Kappa-founded program that works to beautify local parks and gardens in communities across the country. To date, we have completed more than 300 projects and donated more than $600,000 to this cause.

Our philanthropic efforts are supported by our members through individual donations, as well as through fundraising events like our signature event, Sigma Kappa Derby Days. This year alone, we are proud to have raised more than $3 million for our philanthropies through Derby Days and other events.

The money we raise makes a real and lasting impact in the lives of those we serve. Our support helps provide resources for families coping with Alzheimer’s disease, gives children the chance to improve their literacy skills and helps make public places more beautiful for everyone to enjoy. Through our philanthropy, Sigma Kappa sisters are making a difference in the lives of others every day.

How Sigma Kappa’s Local Philanthropy Makes a Difference

Since its founding over 140 years ago, Sigma Kappa has advocated for values-based leadership and personal growth. Our local philanthropy, the Sigma Kappa Foundation, supports those same ideals by awarding scholarships to members and investing in the future of our Sorority.

Each year, the Sigma Kappa Foundation awards nearly $200,000 in scholarships to eligible members. These scholarships help offset the cost of tuition and allow recipients to focus on their studies and personal development. In addition to academic scholarships, the Sigma Kappa Foundation also offers leadership scholarships to members who demonstrate outstanding potential in their campus and/or community involvement.

  Philanthropy in the Gilded Age

Investing in our members’ education is just one way that Sigma Kappa’s philanthropy makes a difference. The Sigma Kappa Foundation also provides grants to chapters for educational programming and leadership development initiatives. These programs help chapters create an environment where members can thrive academically, personally, and professionally. By investing in our chapters, we are investing in the future of our Sorority.

Sigma Kappa’s philanthropy also supports Alzheimer’s research through our partnership with The Alzheimer’s Association. Since 1984, we have raised over $15 million for this important cause. We are committed to finding a cure for this disease, which affects not only those who suffer from it but also their families and friends.

By supporting the Sigma Kappa Foundation, you are making an investment in the future of our Sorority and helping us make a difference in the lives of our members and the causes we care about.

Our national philanthropy is the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s research and support. Their mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, making it the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. We are also committed to supporting local organizations that align with our values and philanthropic mission. Each Sigma Kappa chapter organizes their own philanthropic events throughout the year to support causes such as breast cancer awareness, cognitive impairments, heart health, organ donation, and more. Contact your local chapter to learn more about their upcoming philanthropy events!

Why Sigma Kappa’s Local Philanthropy is Important

As a Sigma Kappa, our local philanthropy is important to us because we get to serve individuals in our own community who may not have anyone else to turn to. We are able to provide them with the resources they need to get through tough times, and we know that our efforts have a direct and positive impact on their lives.

Our philanthropy also allows us to form close bonds with the people we help. We get to know them on a personal level and develop relationships that last long after they’ve received the help they need from us. These relationships are what make Sigma Kappa so special – we’re more than just a sorority, we’re a family.
