What we do
At the Walton Family Foundation, we work to improve lives and make a lasting difference by investing in three areas: opportunity, K-12 education and environmental conservation.
We are a family foundation, and philanthropy is a family tradition. Our Personal Philanthropy Group allows family members to make their own grants to support causes they are passionate about.
The Walton Personal Philanthropy Group supports a wide range of causes, including education, health care, the environment and the arts. We have made grants to organizations working on a variety of issues, such as access to early childhood education, workforce development and climate change.
We are committed to making a difference in the lives of those we serve and to improving the communities where we live and work.
Why we do it
Giving back is at the core of who we are and what we do. We are inspired by the belief that everyone has the power to make a difference, and we are committed to empowering our clients to use their philanthropy to create lasting change in the world.
We are a team of experienced professionals who provide customized philanthropic services to individuals, families, and businesses. We work with our clients to design and implement personalized giving programs that align with their interests and passions. We provide guidance on how to maximize the impact of their philanthropy, and we offer administrative support so that they can focus on what matters most to them.
We are proud of the work that we do, and we are honored to be a part of our clients’ journeys as they make a difference in the world.
Our Approach to Giving
The Walton Personal Philanthropy Group (WPPG) believes in changing lives and communities for the better. We take a strategic and thoughtful approach to our giving, which is informed by our deep understanding of the issues and causes that are important to our family. Our focus is on making a lasting and meaningful difference in the areas that we care about.
What motivates us
motivates us is the opportunity to have a tangible and lasting impact on the lives of others. Seeing the difference that our philanthropy can make – whether it’s helping a student reach their potential or making our communities safer and more vibrant – is what gets us out of bed in the morning.
We also feel a responsibility to give back. We’ve been fortunate enough to have been given a lot in life, and we believe it’s our duty to help make the world a better place for future generations. We want to set an example for others, and show them that it is possible to make a real difference.
And finally, we do it because it’s simply the right thing to do. At the end of the day, we want to be able to look back on our lives and know that we made a positive impact on the world around us.
What we look for in a charity
We want to make sure our gifts are used effectively to further the mission of the organization and have a lasting impact. Our approach to giving is focused on three main areas:
-Making a difference: We aim to support charities that are making a real and measurable difference in their field.
-Effective use of resources: We look for efficient and well-run organizations that make the most of donations.
-Sustainability: We focus on organizations that have a clear plan for sustaining their work over the long term.
How we decide how much to give
The Walton Family Foundation is a private charitable foundation established by the late Sam and Helen Walton. We are committed to improving lives through education and conservation initiatives.
We approach giving with a strategic mindset, looking for opportunities to have the biggest impact. We support organizations working on the frontlines in four areas: education, climate, conservation and opportunities for underserved communities.
We also believe in supporting underserved communities through our grantmaking. Our focus on quality of life extends beyond educational opportunities to include workforce development, access to nutritious food and safe neighborhoods.
Our Giving Portfolio
The Walton Personal Philanthropy Group (WPPG) was created to help us thoughtfully and efficiently give back to the causes and organizations that are important to us. We work to identify, assess and invest in opportunities that reflect our unique interests and capabilities. Our goal is to be strategic and impactful in our giving while also supporting a broad range of causes.
Our focus areas
We focus our giving in four areas: education, environmental stewardship, community and the arts.
Each year, we evaluate and adjust our giving priorities to ensure that we are having the most impact possible. We also seek out opportunities to leverage our resources by partnering with other philanthropic organizations.
Walton Family Foundation dollars go further when they are combined with other investments, whether those investments are financial or in-kind contributions of time and expertise.
Our current charities
We focus our giving in four areas: K-12 education, higher education, arts and culture, and community development. We also support a few other causes that are near and dear to our hearts.
In order to make the biggest impact possible, we focus our giving on a select group of charities that we feel are having the greatest impact in their respective areas.
Our current charities include:
-The Walton Family Foundation
-The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
-The Anschutz Foundation
-The Broad Foundation
-The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation
-The Ford Foundation
-The W.K. Kellogg Foundation
